I'm Naowal Rahman.

Hi! I'm a junior at Columbia University studying computer science and applied mathematics. Broadly, I'm also interested in pure mathematics, theoretical physics, robotics, engineering, and Linux. More specifically, that involves algorithms, machine learning, computer vision, computational complexity theory and its applications to robotics, and system level programming. I love working across the tech stack, and programming in general!
I'm currently a machine learning researcher at the Columbia Laboratory for AI and Biomedical Science. My primary research concerns developing both specialized and foundation models for various biological modalities, most recently the brain and the heart.
Additionally, I lead the RoboRacer project under the Columbia University Robotics Club, where we're building an autonomous 1/10 scale RC car. We aim to build a simulatable and generalizable algorithm for finding the path of least time in a randomized track. We're a small but enthusiastic team of roboticists developing completely from scratch, so please reach out to me if interested!
I'm also a proud alumnus of FRC Team 694, StuyPulse Robotics! During my 2 years there, we qualified for the FRC world championships and built two award-winning robots. After going to countless competitions and spending upwards of 20 hours per week in the lab, I realized I'll always be happy so long as I'm solving cool problems on a team I vibe with.
